Former ABA (American Basketball Association) DeMarco Majors is the first professional basketball player to come out before he retired and play as an openly gay man. This former captain of the San Francisco Rockdogs (gold medal winner at the 2006 Chicago Gay Games).
DeMarco, is now a spokesman for openly gay athletes and hopes to one day (‘soon’, he says) see other openly gay athletes play during the prime of their professional careers.
After playing for teams in Australia, Brazil, Argentina and in the American Basketball Association dealing with homophobic teammates, Majors is now beginning a career as a model and actor. In addition to staring in the Logo series "Shirts & Skins", Majors modeled in New York's Fashion Week, guest starred on Law & Order, appeared in Beyonce’s ‘Freakum Dress’ video, underwear ads, and made his off broadway debut at the Actors Playhouse in a JL King production titled RAW.
